I'm actually gonna dive into the past and watch Biboo's Dark Souls 1 VOD. Just wanna see how she fared.

Her DS1 run went surprisingly well

Was it her first time? That makes a huge difference. I watched it, but can't remember.

Possible she played the original DS1 years ago and came into the Remaster remembering very little.

Yeah, I watched so many playthroughs of it that I just really didn't remember. Kind of a comfort game for me.

Forgot to mention, but playing Switch version. 30 FPS and I swear there's input lag too. Dunno if DS1 is just like this but the dodge roll takes almost half a second to come out.

Would be nice to have a DS1 Switch 2 update. Probably shouldn't get my hopes up though as they were struggling to get Elden Ring running decently.

Might be because I didn't know any different, but I had no issues on the Switch. The first area wrecked me, but after that it honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting aside from 1 boss.

Those first couple hours though...just a death fest.

I mean it's far from a run killer. I've been doing relatively fine. Also could be experience... Took a bunch of attempts to kill that headless 1-leg stone creature, and Biboo killed it first try.

Either it's her being more used to dodge rolling, or the game responded to her reactions better. Could also be my approach though. I'm less Unga Bunga and more tactical trial-and-error.

Are you possibly fat rolling? First thing I did was go and grab havel's as quick as possible. Other than that, yeah might just be the jank.

I think there might be a midroll too..not sure. I just know that I had to have my fast roll the entire game.

Yeah, looks like fast rolling is 25% weight in Dark Souls 1. Anything over is midrolling. It made a difference for me.

Yeah, blacksmith. The roll itself probably didn't bother me 'cause I was already using the Halberd. I'm either rolling or attacking, rarely both. My lighter weapons weren't hitting as hard.

Same with the Gargoyles. I wanted to switch to something lighter, but the Halberd damage and range was too valuable to pass up.

Oh right! Compared to stone guy, Gargoyle attacks were much easier to dodge. So I wouldn't say I'm fat rolling.

Is it the Black Knight Halberd? If so you lucked out with legit the best weapon in the game.

It's just Halberd. Currently a +3 Halberd. Forgot if it was a drop or just lying around.

Ah okay, probably for the best, most people don't recommend the black knight one because it trivializes the game. I would've still used it if I got it early though lol

I just rocked the Battle Axe the entire game lol.

Yeah, I will actively drop any strat that's too overpowered.

And yes, my precious Battle Axe. If it isn't a hulking enemy or something I want to keep distance from, Battle Axe is my goto.

I got excited when I scored the Gargoyle Axe. Even made it +1. Then I actually tried it.

Yeah, I only ended up using one other weapon the entire game. One of the boss weapons that just sounded cool...and was.

It's also pretty cool that the Switch version has the DLC too. Some of the best bosses are in there.

I am willing to switch things up, the tactician that I am. I Fire Bombed the armored Warthog and arrow-sniped that magic caster. Whatever's strongest and bestest (not OP), I'll use.

Can't Zweihander though. I'm not min-maxing my stats, so I will not have 24 strength for quite some time.

Only thing that I guess I'm different in is I thought Dark Souls was a fine one and done game. I beat all the bosses and have no desire to ever play it again.

honestly I feel like shields get like the short hand of the stick sometimes in fromsoft games

like most players only equip shields cause of their effects... or if they are going PvP or parrying and stuff

Yeah for the most part I'd say you're right.

Though high defense builds still do work. I know I saw people just facetaking Radahn and wailing on him.

We're in the age of parrying and dodging because it's seen as flashier and cooler.

I've been running shield just fine. I block and parry lots. Helped with plenty of enemy knights, was a godsend against the Gargoyles.

At some point I wanna double-wield too and see if I can make it work.

oh shields are pretty good... just that youre right that players prefer dodging and parrying. Probably cause those looks cooler and fun for them

There's a lot of contributing factors to it. Majority of players just rush to whatever the "OP" build is. The sweats trash certain playstyles. It's really a shame, but that's just how gaming is now.

Ah, so this was Biboo's first Dark Souls "Last Second Clutch" moment. Didn't realize how easily the gargoyles could get stunlocked down. Also reminded me I scored like 3 drops when I won.

Oh wait nvrmind, this happened after Messmer (which I missed live 'cause I wasn't used to Biboo's 12-hour stints yet )
